Ruq'ah / Riq'ah

The most common type of handwriting. The word Riq'ah means "a small sheet", which could be an indication of the media on which it was originally created, clear and legible, and is the easiest script for daily handwriting, also good script for beginners.

The Riq'ah script is known for its simple form, making it perfect for paragraphs and long texts. The ways its letters are connected makes it particularly easy to convert into a digital font. However, it is not especially attractive in titles or decorations because it does not have the sophisticated letter forms of the Diwani, Thuluth and Kuufic scripts. It has been revised down the ages by many calligraphers and is today the preferred script for handwriting throughout the Arab world.
